The Pryingulskiy Regional Landscape Park was established in 2002 to conserve the natural state of parts of the Ingul River valley with both typical and unique natural habitats, fragments of virgin steppe, granite outcroppings, bodies of water, and forest plantations. The Park covers more than 3,000 hectares.

Here, the Ingul, Berezivka, Stovpova and Sahaidak Rivers and the Sofiyivka fluvial reservoir form a harmonious whole with outcroppings of the Ukrainian shield, forest plantations and gullies.

The Sofiyivka reservoir, around which the Park was created, is the second largest in Mykolayiv Oblast, and the Sofiyivka Hydroelectric Station is one-of-a-kind in terms of its design. The largest artificial waterfall in Mykolayiv Oblast is here, while the Sofiyivka reservoir is considered a hydrological reserve. The gully near the village of Pelaheyivka is a botanical reserve, where the conservation of priceless natural systems began in Novobuzhzhia—and history of the Pryingulskiy Regional Landscape Park.

Flora

The Pryingulskiy nature reserve is the habitat for many rare and endangered species of plants that are now officially protected. In addition to the plants that are typical of the southern steppe, meadow steppe, meadow, forest and rocky zones, the Park also boasts many species endemic to the Sub-Buh and Black Sea littoral, such as the Buh tulip, the Buh carnation, Scythian caragana, Scythian gorse, and relict species.

More than 20 local plant species are included in the Red Book of Ukraine. The rarer species in this region include iris halophila, leafy clematis, broad-leafed statice, and yarrow.

Fauna

The Park boasts both rare and common species of wildlife. Of insects, 5 species are in the Red Book, as are 5 amphibians and 6 reptiles, including the Caspian whipsnake and the green lizard. There are 19 species of mammals and more than 130 species of birds in the Park.

Traveling through the Pryingulsk region, it’s possible to see both natural and historical sites, such as one of the real beauties of the area, the Sviato-Mykhailivskiy Convent, better known as the Pelaheyiv Church.
